Learn about calvary lutheran church beliefs Chandler AZ, our congregation is rooted in the historic Lutheran tradition, proclaiming salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. We believe, teach and confess that our hope for heaven and eternal life with God rests alone in Jesus Christ, God’s Son. “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)
We believe, teach and confess that salvation won for us by Christ becomes ours by a Spirit-worked faith in Jesus as our Savior. “No one can say, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ but by the Holy Spirit.” (1 Corinthians 12:3)
We believe, teach and confess that salvation is by grace alone, not by personal merit on our part. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith, and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast.”
(Ephesians 2:8,9)
We believe, teach and confess that the Bible is the verbally inspired, inerrant and infallible Word of God. God’s Word is the source of all our doctrine and the guide for all our practice. “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” (2 Timothy 3:16)

What We Believe at Calvary Lutheran Church
At Calvary Lutheran Church in Chandler, AZ, our faith is grounded in the Holy Scriptures as the inspired and inerrant Word of God. We are a confessional Lutheran congregation, meaning we hold to the historic Lutheran confessions, including the Augsburg Confession and Luther’s Small Catechism, as faithful summaries of what the Bible teaches.
Law and Gospel: The Heart of Our Message
Central to our Lutheran identity is the distinction between Law and Gospel. The Law reveals our sin and our need for a Savior. The Gospel, the good news that Jesus Christ lived, died, and rose again for us, delivers forgiveness, life, and salvation freely by grace through faith. This message is proclaimed every Sunday in our worship services, Bible studies, and throughout all our ministries.
The Sacraments
We believe in the real presence of Christ in Holy Communion, and that Baptism works faith and forgiveness of sins. These Sacraments, along with the preaching of God’s Word, are the Means of Grace through which God creates and strengthens faith in the hearts of believers. All are welcome to worship with us, and we warmly invite you to learn more about our beliefs before receiving Communion.
Our Lutheran Heritage
Calvary Lutheran Church Chandler is affiliated with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). We hold to the full authority and sufficiency of Scripture and proclaim salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, as revealed in Scripture alone, the three great Reformation principles known as Sola Gratia, Sola Fide, and Sola Scriptura.
